HYP is in the process of putting together our 2009/2010 leadership team. HYP is an incredible way to CHANGE LIVES while networking and socializing with great like-minded young professionals. Below find descriptions of our Chair roles and responsibilities. Please contact current HYP Chair Brooke Rogers by July 27th to express interest in being considered for any or all positions.
The HYP Leadership Chair year runs from September 1, 2009 – October 1, 1010. September is a transition month with the current and new teams.
HYP LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
Each HYP chair has the following responsibilities:
- Commit to serve as a HYP chair for a year (September 1, 2008- October 1, 2009) The last month will be transition to new team.
- Attend Chair and Steering Committee Meetings with an agreement not to miss two consecutive meetings.
- Must be a paid active member of HYP.
- Work collaboratively to maintain a strategic plan and a clear vision based on mission of the organization.
- Support and attend special events and programs put on by the organization.
- Attend 1-2 AHFH board meetings to which the HYP leadership team is invited.
- Serve as a consistent advocate of the organization.
Roles of each Chair
HYP Chair:
- Responsible for leading the monthly HYP steering committee meeting.
- Prepares annual calendar, establishing, communicating, and leading HYP’s annual goals.
- Acts as the key interface between HYP and the Austin Habitat organization.
- It is expected that this person have prior experience in Habitat and/or HYP organizations to instill a positive connection with both Austin Habitat and HYP. (Examples of relevant experience: previous HYP sub-chair or committee member, Habitat Board member, regular Habitat construction volunteer, former Habitat Americorp member).
Vice-Chair:
- Assists the HYP Chair to help ensure the yearly HYP goals are being met.
- Works with the Habitat Communications Director to update the website with relevant HYP calendar and other info.
- Create content for monthly HYP e-newsletter.
- Lead and foster new prospective HYP projects not specifically assigned to other HYP members.
- It is expected this person will be widely involved with HYP/AHFH in order to position him/herself ideally to successfully take over the HYP Chair position the following year.
New Member Growth Chair:
- Responsible for the recruitment of new HYP members and lead recruitment events.
- Help identify key individuals that could assist HYP and encourage these members to attend committee and steering committee meetings.
- Host HYP Habitour Orientations to provide prospective members a better understanding of Austin Habitat and HYP’s mission.
- Send “welcome” messages to prospective and new members.
- Lead a sub-committee of members with the purpose of targeting prospective members, (working closely with Membership Chair).
Membership Relations/Retention Chair:
- Lead efforts to ensure the successful retention of existing HYP members.
- Encourage HYP members to attend committee and steering committee meetings.
- Establish necessary surveys for membership feedback.
- Provide monthly member spotlight for newsletter.
- Collect and upload photographs of HYP Events, Builds, etc.
- Annual correspondence to members (thanks for membership/request renewal, etc).
- Lead a sub-committee of members with the purpose of retaining current members (working closely with Recruitment Chair).
Volunteer Chair:
- Responsible for working with the Habitat Volunteer coordinator to fulfill all HYP volunteer commitments .
- Encourage and invite HYP members to take part in volunteer opportunities, including builds, de-construction, brush with kindness, Restore, lunch brigade, family service committees – send out monthly email with details on HYP volunteer day, track responses.
- Responsible for lunch brigade, drink donations, and build blogs.
- Oversee annual HYP build, including dedication coordination.
- Lead a sub-committee of HYP members for success of volunteer opportunities.
Events Chair:
- Coordinate and manage all monthly social events/social hours for members and prospective members to promote membership growth and retention by helping to maintain a positive morale and a sense of purpose focused on Habitat.
- Lead sub-committee of members for success of Members Events.
- Seek sponsorships for social events.
- Lead sub-committee of members for success of Social Events.
- Host quarterly HYP Habitour Orientation lunches to provide prospective members a better understanding of Austin Habitat and HYP’s mission (work with Membership Chair).
Fundraising Chair:
- Responsible for fundraising activities for HYP.
- Oversee Corporate giving, including sponsors for the Build the HYP Gala.
- Assist Build the HYP Gala team with Silent Auction donations and ticket sales.
Build the HYP Gala Chair (and possible Co-Chair):
- Project coordinator and manager for the 4th Annual Build the HYP fundraising event in Spring 2010.
- Host sub-committee meetings to lead a group of HYP members to ensure the success of Build the HYP party.
Marketing and Communications Chair:
- Work with Gala Co-Chairs to communicate key Gala information.
- Update www.BuildtheHYP.com and HYP blog as necessary.
- Oversee Social Media Spaces and include information on community calendars.
- Develop HYP and Gala Marketing Strategy (with HYP Chair & Gala Chair), including print media, radio, TV, social spaces, community calendars, invitations, flyers, etc.
